With Christmas so near I thought it would be a good time to remind you that table scrapes and people food treats can have deadly consequences to your Toy or Mini Aussie. While it is very hard to tell them no with all the food, remember it is for your babies own good.
I think the hardest thing to control is your guests. Often each one thinks just a little won't hurt a thing. Well, if you have a houseful and a small dog, those "just a little" bits add up quick. While it isn't always easy to do, take the time to tell your guests NO right up front. Children are the hardest ones to make understand and often your Aussies prime target for begging. If it becomes a problem, now is a good time for the crate.
Chocolate can be deadly! I know they love it as much as we do, however, it is toxic to them. Should your baby get into the chocolate chip cookies or worse, be sure to call your vet right away. Most vets will give advice over the phone at times like these. Depending on how much they ate and how long it was before you found out they ate the chocolate, it can be as simple as giving them something to make them sick to the stomach.
Let me offer a suggestion to you. Make up a batch of homemade liver treats, set out on a plate how much your dogs can have a day, let your guests know they are for the dogs only (they won't hurt people, just tastes like liver and looks a little like brownies)! Then when your guests can't stand the sad eyes any more, there is something good to give your babies. Recipe and video by Uncle Mike CLICK HERE
